2023 ‘Amfora’ Orange Wine, Villa Noria

    £2295

An aromatic orange wine with delicate floral notes of rose, quince and apple. The palate is fresh, fruity and harmonious, finishing with a little grip, leaving an impression of pleasant tension.

The grapes for the Amfòra cuvée come from vineyards between the Mediterranean Sea and the mountainous foothills. The Mediterranean climate, with its warm, dry summers and relatively mild winters, offers the vines excellent conditions in which to flourish. The high number of sunshine hours results in wines that are powerful, rich and aromatic, but also fresh due to the tempering effects of the Mediterranean Sea. The soils are made up mostly of clay-limestone and basaltic soil; the latter is a volcanic soil formed from ancient lava, which contains high proportions of iron and imparts a distinctive minerality to the wine. The vineyard is certified organic and HVE Level 3 certified for sustainability. The vines are surrounded by hedges to protect them from pesticide treatments in the neighbouring fields and also to provide a refuge for the wildlife, enhancing biodiversity. Harvested in the cool of the night to retain freshness and at high ripeness levels to avoid any green flavours or bitterness.

    2022 Llunari, Herència Altés

    £2295

A sunlit swirl of texture and fragrance, the 2022 Llunari is an orange wine with real grace and lift. Made entirely from Garnatxa Blanca, it gleams a deep gold with amber reflections and opens with aromas of quince, orange peel and wild fennel. The palate is both crisp and textural, a fresh, zesty entry leading into layers of citrus, dried apricot and almond skin. There’s a subtle grip from skin contact, but it’s beautifully integrated, creating a wine that feels bright, tactile and endlessly moreish. The finish hums with Mediterranean warmth and a whisper of raw almonds, quietly captivating from first sip to last.

For when: the sun’s dipping low and conversation feels easy.
Pairs with: mezze, grilled fish, or roasted vegetables with tahini and lemon.
If this wine were a moment, it’d be golden hour on a Catalan hillside.

Herència Altés, based in Terra Alta in southern Catalonia, is a family-run estate that has become a beacon for elegant, authentic expressions of Garnatxa. Founded by Nuria Altés and Rafa De Haan, the winery is dedicated to organic farming and low-intervention winemaking, shining a light on the region’s old vines and limestone-rich soils.

The Llunari project captures their spirit of experimentation, a skin-contact white made from 100% Garnatxa Blanca, fermented with indigenous yeasts and minimal sulphur to let the grape’s natural character shine. The 2022 vintage radiates freshness and Mediterranean soul: pure fruit, gentle texture, and that unmistakable Altés touch, a wine that bridges tradition and trend with effortless style.

    2020 L’Orange de l’Ou’, Château de l’Ou

    £3700

A refreshing orange wine with intriguing aromas of candied orange peel, citrus and a touch of curry spice. On the palate, delicious notes of grapefruit, peach and delicate ginger lead to a long, crisp finish.

The Muscat à Petit Grains grapes come from the Côtes Catalans, which is the principle IGP allowing only mono-varietal wines. The vines thrive at an altitude of 325 metres elevation in the Haute Vallée de l’Agly, in the Roussillon region. The climate is Mediterranean, strongly influenced by cooling coastal breezes combined with mountain freshness from the foothills of the Pyrenees which balance the hot, arid summers. The terroir is made up of a mosaic of black schist soils, which date back to the Cretaceous period. The schistous marl produces shallow soils, which force the vines to send their roots deep in search of water and nutrients. The vineyard is certified organic.
